Gayophytum ramosissimum Torr. & A. Gray NATIVE Habit: Herbage +- glabrous. Stem: < 50 cm; branches throughout, forked except at base, 2° branches generally many. Leaf: 1--4 cm, much reduced distally on stem. Inflorescence: 1st flower 5--15 nodes distal to base. Flower: petals 0.7--1.5 mm; larger stamens +- 0.5 mm; ovary glabrous or puberulent. Fruit: 3--9 mm, generally < pedicel, cylindric, slightly knobby. Seed: 10--30, in each chamber in 2 rows, overlapped, glabrous. Chromosomes: 2n=14. Ecology: Sagebrush scrub; Elevation: 500--3500 m. Bioregional Distribution: CaRH, n SN, GB; Distribution Outside California: +- western United States.
