Gayophytum eriospermum Coville
Stem: < 1 m; branches 0 near base, forked distally. Leaf: 2--7.5 cm, much reduced distally on stem. Inflorescence: 1st flower generally 10--20 nodes distal to base. Flower: petals 4--8 mm; larger stamens 3--7 mm; ovary hairy, stigma exserted beyond anthers, hemispheric. Fruit: 4--16 mm, > pedicel, slightly knobby. Seed: 4--12, alternate, glabrous to densely puberulent. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Open montane forest; Elevation: 100--3200 m. Bioregional Distribution: SN (s of Placer Co.). Flowering Time: Jun--Oct
