Galium tricornutum Dandy
Habit: Annual, sprawling to trailing, dense in flower, open in fruit. Stem: 10--35 cm, stout, +- glabrous. Leaf: in whorls of 6--8, 12--19 mm, linear to narrowly oblanceolate, margin short-recurved-prickly, thickened. Inflorescence: clusters, axillary, flowers few, peduncle < leaf, pedicel recurved. Flower: bisexual; corolla rotate, white. Fruit: nutlets, pairs > 4 mm wide; tubercles acute. Chromosomes: 2n=44.
Ecology: Grassland, vernal pools, freshwater marsh, roadsides; Elevation: 100--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoR, n&c SNF, n SNH, GV, SnFrB, SCoRO; Distribution Outside California: native to Europe. Flowering Time: Apr--May
