Galium argense Dempster & Ehrend.
Habit: Perennial herb, erect, 20--60 cm, stiff, open, glabrous, woody near base; dioecious. Leaf: in whorls of 4, 8--21 mm, lanceolate to ovate, tip sharp, tapered. Inflorescence: clusters, terminal on branchlets, much exserted from leaves. Flower: corolla +- bell-shaped to rotate, glabrous to sparsely hairy, cream. Fruit: nutlets, +- 6 mm including hairs; hairs long, straight, spreading. Chromosomes: 2n=44.
Ecology: Loose, stony e-facing slopes with Pinus monophylla; Elevation: 1250--2400 m. Bioregional Distribution: DMtns (Argus, Nelson ranges, Inyo Co.). Flowering Time: Apr--Oct
