Euclidium syriacum (L.) W.T. Aiton
Habit: Annual, hairy throughout, hairs minutely stalked, 2(3)-forked, some simple. Stem: (0.4)1--4(4.5) dm, rigid, branched proximally. Leaf: simple, not rosetted, petioled, base not lobed or clasping; basal, proximal cauline (1.5)2--9(12) cm, oblong to lance-oblong, entire, dentate, or wavy-margined; distal cauline +- sessile. Inflorescence: spike-like, open. Flower: sepals erect, 0.6--0.9 mm, base not sac-like; petals 0.9--1.3 mm, 0.1--0.2 mm wide, spoon-shaped, white. Fruit: silicle, sessile, appressed, 2--2.5 mm, 1.5--2 mm wide, ovoid, occasionally 4-sided; woody; style 1--1.8 mm, conical, stigma 2-lobed; pedicel erect, 0.5--1(1.2) mm, stout. Seed: 2(4), 1.3--1.7 mm, oblong. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Disturbed pastures, roadsides; Elevation: 1000--1500 m. Bioregional Distribution: MP; Distribution Outside California: to Washington, Colorado; native to Eurasia. Flowering Time: May--Jun
