Eastwoodia elegans Brandegee
Habit: Rounded shrub, minutely scabrous but appearing glabrous, resinous. Stem: <= 1 m, +- striate; new growth yellow to tan; bark of older growth gray-white, shredding with age. Leaf: alternate, proximal sometimes in axillary clusters, <= 4 cm, <= 4 mm wide, +- linear or narrowly oblanceolate, entire. Inflorescence: heads discoid, +- spheric, 1 or in open cyme-like clusters; involucre bell-shaped, < 2 cm, <= 2 cm wide; phyllaries graduated in 3--5 series, narrow, green or +- white, tips acuminate, green; receptacle hemispheric, paleate, paleae oblanceolate, readily deciduous. Flower: 30--180+; corolla <= 6 mm, cylindric to funnel-shaped, yellow; style branch appendages lanceolate. Fruit: 1.7--2 mm, narrowly obconic, obscurely 3--4-angled, hairy, especially on angles; pappus of 5--8 lance-linear scales, > fruit. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Ecology: Banks, arid hillsides, brushy slopes, juniper woodland; Elevation: 60--1300 m. Bioregional Distribution: s SNF, Teh, s SnJV, se SnFrB, SCoR, WTR. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
