Eriodictyon californicum (Hook. & Arn.) Torr.
Habit: Shrub. Stem: 1--3 m; twigs glabrous, sticky (sparse-hairy). Leaf: short-petioled; blade <= 15 cm, 4--5 cm wide, lanceolate to oblong, entire to toothed, adaxially sticky, glabrous to sparse-hairy, abaxially hairy between veins in net-like pattern; margin rolled under. Flower: buds appearing dark, not gray-hairy; calyx lobes 1--4 mm, abaxially glabrous to sparse-hairy, adaxially short-stiff-hairy; corolla 8--12(17) mm, funnel-shaped, white to purple, abaxially sparse-hairy; ovary dense-hairy, style 3--8 mm. Seed: 2--20. Chromosomes: n=14.
Ecology: Slopes, fields, roadsides, woodland, chaparral; Elevation: 20--1830 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, CaR, SN, GV, CW; Distribution Outside California: southern Oregon. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
