Eriastrum diffusum (A. Gray) H. Mason
Habit: Annual. Stem: erect or spreading, 3--20 cm, thin, wiry, generally subglabrous, often brown. Leaf: 10--25 mm; lobes generally 1--3 near base, +- glabrous to woolly. Flower: corolla generally 6--9 mm, generally funnel-shaped, tube 3--4(--5) mm, white, yellow, or pale blue, throat +- 1 mm, lobes 2--3(--4) mm, generally > 1 mm wide, light blue or cream; stamens attached in upper throat, 2--3 mm, unequal, exserted. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Open areas, sandy soil; Elevation: < 2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: SNE, D; Distribution Outside California: to Colorado, Texas; northern Mexico. Flowering Time: Mar--Jun Note: Plant not always open or diffuse.
