Cytisus proliferus L. f.
Habit: Plant < 5 m. Stem: twigs round in ×-section, hairy. Leaf: petiole generally 5--12 mm, hairy; leaflets 10--30 mm, lanceolate to ovate, adaxially generally glabrous or sparsely hairy, abaxially silky-hairy. Inflorescence: axillary clusters of 3--7 flowers, pedicels hairy. Flower: calyx cylindric, 8--9 mm, silky-hairy, tube 5--6 mm, upper lip generally widely 2-lobed, generally +- 1/2 tube, lower shallowly 3-lobed; corolla white, purple-lined or -spotted inside, banner 10--15 mm, generally obovate, reflexed or not, keel oblong-sickle-shaped (curve abaxial), claw generally < 1/2 keel, +- hairy outside. Fruit: 3.5--5 cm, silky-hairy, black.
Ecology: Uncommon. Disturbed places; Elevation: < 100 m. Bioregional Distribution: CCo, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: native to Canary Islands. Flowering Time: Mar--May Note: Transfer from Chamaecytisus (Cristofolini 1991 Webbia 45: 187--219) supported by molecular data (Cubas et al. 2002 Plant Syst Evol 233: 223--242).
