Habit: Annual 5--20 cm, generally decumbent to +- erect, slender. Stem: branches generally throughout; generally strigose, sparse-spreading-bristly at base. Leaf: 0.5--2 cm, linear to narrow-oblong, strigose to generally ascending-rough-hairy, abaxial bristles sparse (bulbous-based). Inflorescence: in 1s or 2s, congested at tips; bracted below; pedicel generally 0. Flower: calyx 1.5--2 mm, 3--4 mm in fruit, deciduous, lobes lance-linear, tips generally spreading, margin dense-ascending rough-hairy, midvein +- thickened, +- dense-coarse-spreading-+- yellow-bristly; corolla limb 1.5--2 mm diam. Fruit: nutlets (3)4, 1.2--1.4(1.5) mm, +- ovate, grainy, +- brown, generally mottled, dull, margin rounded, base truncate, tip +- beaked; abaxially low-rounded, +- tubercled above middle, +- ridged; adaxially +- flat, attachment scar edges unevenly raised, +- abutted, small-narrow-triangular-gapped at base; axis generally to nutlet tips.
Ecology: Rocky, gravelly, to sandy open sites, occasionally stabilized dunes; Elevation: 5--200 m. Bioregional Distribution: s ChI (San Clemente, San Nicolas islands). Flowering Time: Feb--Jun
