Cryptantha rattanii Greene
Habit: Annual 15--60 cm, slender. Stem: branches 0 to throughout; bristles appressed to spreading. Leaf: few, 1.5--6 cm, linear to narrow-lanceolate, margin minute-appressed- to -spreading-bulbous-based-bristly. Inflorescence: in 2s or 3s; bracts 0; pedicel +- 0. Flower: calyx 1--1.5 mm, 2.5--3(3.5) mm in fruit, deciduous, enlarged below, +- constricted above, lobes erect to +- spreading, linear, dense-rough-hairy to bristly, hairs ascending to spreading, midvein +- thickened; corolla limb 3--6 mm diam, appendages yellow. Fruit: nutlets 1--3, 1.5--2 mm, lanceolate, +- gray, fine-grainy, +- dull, margin rounded, base rounded, tip +- beaked; abaxially rounded, ridge +- 0; adaxially +- flat, attachment scar edges +- raised, abutted entire length, narrow-gapped at base; axis not to nutlet tips.
Ecology: Rocky, gravelly slopes, grassland, coastal scrub, chaparral, foothill woodland; Elevation: 150--780 m. Bioregional Distribution: n SCoR. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
