Cryptantha oxygona (A. Gray) Greene
Habit: Annual 10--45 cm. Stem: branches 0 or from base; strigose and +- sparse-ascending- to -spreading-rough-hairy, hairs +- bulbous-based. Leaf: 0.5--3(4) cm, narrow-oblanceolate to linear, hairs fine, +- appressed to ascending, occasionally spreading, +- bulbous-based. Inflorescence: in 2s or 3s; bracts 0; pedicel +- 0.5 mm, ascending to spreading. Flower: generally scented; calyx 1--1.5(2) mm, 2.5--4 mm in fruit, occasionally +- constricted above, deciduous, lobes lanceolate, margins generally ascending soft-hairy, midvein +- thickened with few, coarse-bristles; corolla deciduous, limb 4--9 mm diam, appendages prominent, yellow. Fruit: nutlets 4, 1.8--2.5 mm, +- ovate, +- gray or mottled, dense-papillate to white-grainy, shiny, margin a +- flat narrow wing, occasionally +- toothed, wider near tip, base wide-truncate, tip +- acute; abaxially low-rounded, ridge 0; adaxially shallow-biconvex, attachment scar edges abutted near tip, lower 1/2 +- gapped or abutted entire length, triangular-gapped at base; axis generally beyond nutlets.
Ecology: Open, gravelly sites, slopes, washes, generally foothill woodland to pinyon/juniper woodland or sparse conifer forest, occasionally desert; Elevation: 200--2450 m. Bioregional Distribution: c&s SNF, SNH (e slope), Teh, SnJV, SCoRI, SW (exc ChI), n SNE, w DMoj; Distribution Outside California: west-central Nevada. Flowering Time: Mar--Jul
