Cryptantha mohavensis (Greene) Greene
Habit: Annual 10--40 cm. Stem: branches 0 to generally throughout; rough-hairy, hairs ascending to spreading. Leaf: 0.5--4 cm, linear to oblong, dense-spreading-bulbous-based-bristly. Inflorescence: in 2s or 3s; bracts 0; pedicel 0.5 mm, ascending to spreading. Flower: scented; calyx 1.5--2 mm, 3--5 mm in fruit, late-deciduous, lobes lanceolate, dense-rough-hairy, hairs ascending, midvein +- thickened with few to many coarse, +- spreading bristles; corolla deciduous, limb (4)5--7.5 mm diam, appendages prominent, deep yellow. Fruit: nutlets (3)4, 2--2.5 mm, +- ovate, +- smooth, margin sharp-angled or a +- flat linear rim especially near tip, base +- wide-truncate, tip +- acute; abaxially +- flat, widened near base, low-ridged near tip; adaxially low biconvex, attachment scar edges abutted toward tip, +- to wide-gapped lower 1/2, or abutted entire length, fork- to triangular-gapped at base; axis beyond nutlets.
Ecology: Open granitic-based gravelly or rocky slopes, generally pinyon/juniper woodland, occasionally creosote-bush scrub to open conifer forest; Elevation: 500--2650 m. Bioregional Distribution: s SNH (e slope), Teh, n TR, w DMoj. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
