Cryptantha micromeres (A. Gray) Greene
Habit: Annual 5--50 cm; slender. Stem: branches generally throughout; short-rough-hairy, hairs spreading. Leaf: basal rosette generally well developed; 1--4.5 cm, linear to oblong, short-bristly, hairs abaxially sparse, bulbous-based. Inflorescence: in 1s to 4s, slender; bracts 0; pedicel generally 0. Flower: calyx < 1 mm, 1--1.5 mm in fruit, +- dense-spreading-hairy, +- late-deciduous, lobes lance-ovate, tips constricted, together, margins ciliate, midvein +- thickened, dense-strigose and spreading-bristly, some bristles hooked at tip; corolla late-deciduous, limb +- 0.5 mm diam, appendages 0. Fruit: nutlets 4, 0.7--1 mm (1 +- > others), triangular-ovate, +- brown, generally shiny, margin rounded, base truncate, tip acute, +- larger 1 +- smooth, 3 smaller tubercled, white-papillate; abaxially low-rounded, ridge 0; adaxially biconvex, attachment scar edges +- raised, abutted to narrow-gapped entire length, triangular-forked-gapped at base; axis generally to nutlet tips.
Ecology: Open sites, disturbed, coarse soils, chaparral, woodland, burns; Elevation: < 1350 m. Bioregional Distribution: n&c SNF, CW (exc SCoRI), SW; Distribution Outside California: Baja California. Flowering Time: Mar--Jul
