Habit: Annual 8--25 cm. Stem: branches 0 or generally few; sparse-strigose and generally ascending to occasionally spreading +- rough-hairy. Leaf: lowest 1--3 generally opposite; 1--2 cm, oblong to oblanceolate; sparse-short-bristly, bristles generally ascending, bulbous-based abaxially. Inflorescence: in 1s (3s); bracts generally 1--few; pedicel +- elongated in fruit, < 0.5 mm, ascending to erect. Flower: calyx 1.5--3 mm, 4--6(7) mm in fruit, late-deciduous, lobes +- lanceolate, margin +- strigose, midvein thickened, generally dense-spreading-bristly; corolla late-deciduous, limb (2)3--6 mm diam, appendages prominent, +- deep yellow. Fruit: nutlets (2)3--4, 1.9--2.2 mm, ovate, generally fine-grainy, +- tubercled, +- brown, dull to shiny, margin rounded, base wide-truncate, tip abruptly beaked; abaxially low-rounded, ridge 0; adaxially generally biconvex to occasionally +- flat, attachment scar edges not raised, abutted toward tip, +- gapped lower +- 1/2, +- flared- or wide-fork-gapped at base; axis beyond nutlets.
Ecology: Rocky, semi-barren serpentine ridges, slopes, generally chaparral; Elevation: 200--650 m. Bioregional Distribution: n&c SNF. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
