Cryptantha incana Greene
Habit: Annual 15--50 cm, slender. Stem: erect, branches generally throughout; thin-strigose to rough-hairy, some hairs ascending to spreading. Leaf: 1--3.5 cm, oblong to narrow-oblanceolate; abaxially bristly, some bristles bulbous-based; adaxially +- appressed-hairy. Inflorescence: in (1s) 2s or 3s; bracts 0; pedicel < 0.5 mm, +- ascending. Flower: scented; calyx 1--1.5 mm, 2--2.5 mm in fruit, deciduous, lobes oblong, short rough-hairy, hairs ascending, midvein not thickened, bristles 2--4 per lobe, coarse, spreading; corolla deciduous, limb 3--6 mm diam, appendages prominent, deep yellow. Fruit: nutlets (1)2(3), 1.5--2 mm, lance-ovate, pale to dark gray, generally smooth or occasionally papillate, margin rounded to basally +- sharp-angled, base wide-truncate, tip +- beaked; abaxially +- flat, widened near base, sharp ridged at tip; adaxially low biconvex, attachment scar edges not raised, abutted toward tip, +- gapped +- lower 1/2 or abutted entire length, fork-gapped at base; axis to nutlets or shorter.
Ecology: Gravelly or rocky areas, open conifer forest, occasionally chaparral; Elevation: 1770--3000 m. Bioregional Distribution: sw SNH. Flowering Time: May--Aug
