Clarkia rostrata W.S. Davis
Stem: erect, < 6 dm, puberulent. Leaf: petiole < 10 mm; blade 1--6 cm, lanceolate. Inflorescence: axis in bud recurved at tip; buds pendent. Flower: hypanthium +- 2 mm, ring of hairs +- at rim; sepals staying fused in 4s, pink to purple-red; corolla bowl-shaped, petals 1--2.5 cm, fan-shaped, pink-lavender shading to white near middle, often darker-flecked, base red-purple; stamens 8, filaments alike, outer anthers lavender, inner smaller, paler; ovary 4-grooved, stigma exserted beyond anthers. Fruit: 1--3 cm; beak 7--15 mm. Chromosomes: n=9.
Ecology: Oak/pine woodland; Elevation: +- 500 m. Bioregional Distribution: c SNF (Mariposa Co.), SnJV (Merced River drainage, probably ephemeral populations). Flowering Time: Apr--May
