Clarkia modesta Jeps.
Stem: erect, < 7 dm, puberulent. Leaf: petiole < 15 mm; blade 2--4 cm, linear to narrowly lanceolate or elliptic. Inflorescence: axis in bud recurved at tip; buds pendent. Flower: hypanthium 1--3 mm; sepals staying fused in 4s; corolla generally rotate, petals 8--12 mm, oblanceolate to diamond-shaped, pink, not lighter near base, generally darker flecked, fading darker; stamens 8, inner anthers << outer, paler; ovary 8-grooved, stigma not exserted beyond anthers. Chromosomes: n=8.
Ecology: Shady places in woodland; Elevation: < 1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRI, c&s SNF, SnFrB, SCoR. Flowering Time: Apr--May
