Chenopodium vulvaria L.
Habit: Annual 5--40 cm, few-branched from base, odor unpleasant. Stem: erect to ascending, powdery. Leaf: blade 3--20 mm, ovate to +- diamond-shaped, entire, glabrous to sparsely powdery adaxially, densely powdery abaxially, base obtuse, broadly tapered or rounded, tip generally acuminate. Inflorescence: small clusters in axillary spikes or terminal panicles. Flower: calyx tube +- enclosing fruit, lobes abaxially +- flat, powdery. Fruit: +- 1 mm diam, wall attached to seed, minutely papillate. Seed: horizontal, > 0.9 mm, lenticular-oval, black, wrinkled. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Ecology: Uncommon. Open, disturbed areas; Elevation: < 1400 m. Bioregional Distribution: CaRF, s SN, GV, CW, WTR; Distribution Outside California: to eastern United States; native to Eurasia. Flowering Time: Jun--Oct
