Chenopodium hians Standl.
Habit: Annual 30--80 cm, generally sparsely branched, scented. Leaf: blade 8--40 mm, 3--8(15) mm wide, length 3--many × width, narrowly lanceolate or elliptic-oblong, prominently 3-veined, entire or 2-lobed, +- densely powdery abaxially, glabrous to sparsely powdery adaxially; base tapered, tip acute or rounded. Inflorescence: sparse; clusters widely spaced in axillary and terminal panicles, bracts leaf-like. Flower: sepals elliptic-oblong to narrowly ovate, +- keeled, powdery, not enclosing fruit in age. Fruit: 1--1.5 mm diam; fruit wall glandular-roughened, attached to seed. Seed: horizontal, widely conic, flat adaxially, margin round. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Ecology: Open places, scrub, woodland; Elevation: 300--2700 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, CaR, SN, SCoRI, TR, PR, GB; Distribution Outside California: to Wyoming, New Mexico. Flowering Time: Jul--Aug Note: +- like Chenopodium atrovirens, Chenopodium desiccatum, Chenopodium leptophyllum.
