Chenopodium desiccatum A. Nelson
Habit: Annual, erect to spreading, 12--40 cm. Stem: generally several from base. Leaf: blade 15--25 mm, 4--6 mm wide, length 3--many × width, generally linear to narrowly lanceolate (elliptic), +- fleshy, (1)3-veined, entire, tip generally acuminate, densely powdery abaxially, less so adaxially. Inflorescence: clusters densely packed in axillary and terminal panicles. Flower: sepals obovate, keeled, densely powdery, generally enclosing fruit in age, tip obtuse; stamens 5. Fruit: +- 1 mm diam; wall free from seed. Seed: horizontal, flat adaxially, black, warty, shiny. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Ecology: Uncommon. Open places, scrub, conifer forest; Elevation: < 2900 m. Bioregional Distribution: SN, SnJV, TR, GB, n DMoj; Distribution Outside California: to Wyoming, Missouri, Texas. Flowering Time: Jul--Sep
