Chenopodium chenopodioides (L.) Aellen
Habit: Annual 4--35 cm, prostrate to erect, densely branched, glabrous. Leaf: blade 8--35 mm, +- diamond-shaped to deltate, entire to irregularly few-toothed. Inflorescence: clusters 3--4 mm diam, in axillary branched spikes. Flower: calyx 3-lobed in vertically seeded flowers, 4--5-lobed in horizontally seeded flowers; calyx tube enclosing fruit in vertical-seeded flowers, lobes deltate, +- glabrous; stamen 1. Fruit: 0.5--1 mm diam; wall free from seed. Seed: generally vertical, ovoid.
Ecology: Saline soils, drying ponds, mudflats; Elevation: < 2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRO, SN, SnBr, PR, GB; Distribution Outside California: to Washington; native to South America. Flowering Time: Jul--Oct
