Cacaliopsis nardosmia (A. Gray) A. Gray
Habit: Perennial herb 1.5--9 dm, from rhizome. Stem: generally erect. Leaf: simple, basal and cauline, alternate, distal reduced; petiole 7--30 cm; blade 7--35 cm, widely reniform, palmately lobed and further divided, abaxially +- tomentose, adaxially +- glabrous. Inflorescence: heads generally 3--11 in raceme-like to +- flat-topped cluster, discoid; involucre generally 12--16 mm, +- bell-shaped; phyllaries in 1--2 equal series, linear to lanceolate; receptacle flat, epaleate. Flower: 20--50; corolla generally 5--7 mm, +- yellow, lobes lanceolate, spreading; anther base entire, tip narrowly lanceolate; style branches +- short-bristly, tips flattened, conic. Fruit: 6--8.5 mm, cylindric, 12--15-veined, glabrous, brown; pappus 10--18 mm, of many fine, minutely barbed bristles, white. Chromosomes: 2n=60.
Ecology: Meadows, open forest, sometimes serpentine; Elevation: 200--2150 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR, NCoR; Distribution Outside California: to southern British Columbia. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
