Ceanothus masonii McMinn
Habit: Plant generally erect, < 2 m. Stem: ascending, twigs generally angled distally, red-brown to dark brown, generally gray-brown in age. Leaf: opposite, evergreen; stipules knob-like; petiole < 3 mm; blade 7--21 mm, 4--13 mm wide, obovate to narrowly obovate, flat, adaxially dark green, glabrous, abaxially short-strigose, tip obtuse to truncate, margin 9--17-toothed. Inflorescence: umbel-like, 1--2 cm. Flower: blue to purple-blue. Fruit: 4--5 mm wide; horns < 1.5 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=24.
Ecology: Rocky slopes, chaparral; Elevation: 150--450 m. Bioregional Distribution: SnFrB (Bolinas Ridge, sw Marin Co.). Flowering Time: Mar--May Note: Probably better treated as part of Ceanothus gloriosus.
