Caulanthus simulans Payson
Habit: Annual, +- conspicuously spreading-bristly proximally. Stem: erect, 1--7 dm, not inflated, generally branched distally. Leaf: basal rosetted, oblanceolate, 1--8 cm, coarsely dentate to pinnately lobed; cauline ovate to oblong, coarsely dentate to entire, sessile, base lobed to clasping. Inflorescence: terminal sterile flower cluster 0. Flower: sepals erect, 3--6.5 mm, keeled, yellow; petals 10--14 mm, creamy white to pale yellow, midvein occasionally purple; stamens 4 long, 2 short, filaments free. Fruit: reflexed (spreading), 3--7.5 cm, 1.2--1.5 mm wide, generally curved; style 0.1--3 mm, stigma 2-lobed; pedicel reflexed, 2--5 mm. Seed: 48--62, 1--2 mm, oblong to ovoid; cotyledons entire. Chromosomes: 2n=28.
