Castilleja mollis Pennell
Habit: Perennial herb or subshrub, +- prostrate, 30--40 cm, openly branched, white-woolly, hairs branched, some glandular. Stem: with leafy axillary shoots. Leaf: 10--30 mm, oblong to obovate, entire, tip rounded. Inflorescence: 3--8 cm; bracts 15--20 mm, fleshy, obovate, tip rounded or 3-toothed, yellow(-green). Flower: calyx 16--18 mm, divided +- 1/2 abaxially and adaxially, +- 1/8 on sides, lobes ovate, acute; corolla 17--18 mm, beak generally < tube, +- yellow-green, slightly exserted, adaxially densely puberulent, margins pale, lower lip 2 mm, green; stigma slightly 2-lobed, dark green, slightly exserted. Fruit: 16 mm. Seed: 2 mm; coat deeply netted, most walls ladder-like. Chromosomes: 2n=24.
Ecology: Coastal dunes; Elevation: < 20 m. Bioregional Distribution: n ChI (Santa Rosa, e San Miguel islands). Flowering Time: Apr--Aug
