Calystegia sepium (L.) R. Br.
Habit: Perennial herb from rhizome, glabrous to hairy. Stem: climbing, < 4 m. Leaf: blade generally 4--8 cm, lobed. Inflorescence: peduncle < subtending leaf; bracts +- hiding calyx, entire, flat or keeled. Flower: sepals generally 10--18 mm; corolla 30--58 mm, white or pink. Chromosomes: 2n=22.
Note: Highly variable, many geographic subspecies; other subspecies in temperate regions worldwide.
