Calochortus tolmiei Hook. & Arn.
Stem: 10--40 cm, simple or branched, +- slender. Leaf: basal 10--40 cm, persistent; cauline generally 1. Inflorescence: +- umbel-like; flowers 1--several, spreading or erect; bracts >= 2, 1--7 cm, lanceolate to linear. Flower: perianth bell-shaped; sepals 10--15 mm, lance-oblong, acute or acuminate, glabrous; petals 12--25 mm, obovate to wedge-shaped, white to +- pink or +- purple, +- ciliate, densely hairy, nectary bordered below by ciliate membrane, above by short hairs; filaments 6--8 mm, dilated at base, anthers 3--5 mm, lanceolate, white to purple. Fruit: nodding, 20--30 mm, elliptic-oblong, winged. Seed: irregular, dark brown, net-like. Chromosomes: 2n=20.
Ecology: Common. Dry, grassy slopes, woodland, often in poor soil; Elevation: 50--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, CaR, n SN, n ScV, n CCo, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: to Washington, Idaho. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
