Calochortus macrocarpus Douglas
Habit: Plant glaucous. Stem: 20--50 cm, stout, generally simple, bulblets generally present. Leaf: basal 5--10 cm, withering; cauline 2--5, 5--20 cm, inrolled, tips curled. Inflorescence: +- umbel-like; flowers 1--6, erect; bracts 3--5 cm. Flower: perianth bell-shaped; sepals 40--50 mm, lanceolate, long-acuminate, tinged purple, generally > petals; petals 35--60 mm, narrowly obovate, purple, green-striped abaxially, generally purple-banded and bearded above nectary, nectary +- depressed, +- triangular-sagittate, densely slender-hairy; filaments 8--9 mm, anthers +- 10 mm, lance-linear, white, yellow-pink, light purple. Fruit: erect, 4--5 cm, +- lanceolate, angled, tip acuminate. Seed: flat, inflated, light yellow or tan, net-like.
Ecology: Common. Sagebrush scrub, yellow-pine forest, generally volcanic soil; Elevation: 1300--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: n CaR, GB; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia. Flowering Time: Jun--Aug
