Calochortus excavatus Greene
Stem: 10--30 cm, slender, simple, bulblets generally present. Leaf: basal 10--20 cm, generally persistent; cauline reduced upward. Inflorescence: +- umbel-like; flowers 1--6, erect; bracts paired, generally 3--8 cm. Flower: perianth widely bell-shaped; sepals 20--30 mm, lanceolate, generally not spotted; petals 30--40 mm, widely wedge-shaped, white, base marked dark purple, green-striped abaxially, sparsely short-hairy near nectary, nectary round, depressed, encircled by fringed membrane, densely short-branched-hairy; filaments 6--8 mm, anthers 7--10 mm, oblong, obtuse, red-brown. Fruit: erect, 5--8 cm, narrowly lanceolate, angled.
Ecology: Grassy meadows in shadscale scrub; Elevation: 1300--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: sw SNE. Flowering Time: Apr--May Note: Threatened by groundwater development.
