Calochortus elegans Pursh
Stem: 5--15 cm, generally simple, +- slender, wavy. Leaf: basal 10--20 cm, persistent; cauline generally 0. Inflorescence: flowers 1--7, spreading to erect; bracts 2--several, 1--3 mm, lanceolate to linear. Flower: perianth bell-shaped; sepals 12--16 mm, lanceolate to elliptic, +- papillate adaxially; petals 12--20 mm, +- oblanceolate, green-white, base dark +- purple, ciliate, hairy, nectary shallow, bordered below with +- ciliate membranes, above with short hairs; filaments 3--4 mm, dilated at base, anthers 3--5 mm, long-pointed, white to lilac. Fruit: nodding, 1--2 cm, widely elliptic, winged. Seed: irregular, light brown. Chromosomes: 2n=20.
Ecology: Open woodland; Elevation: 1500--2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: e KR, NCoRI; Distribution Outside California: to Washington, Montana. Flowering Time: May--Jul
