Calochortus amoenus Greene
Habit: Plant leafy, +- glaucous. Stem: 20--50 cm. Leaf: basal 20--50 cm, persistent; cauline 2--5, acuminate. Inflorescence: flowers 2--many, nodding; bracts generally paired, 1--5 cm, lanceolate. Flower: perianth spheric, closed at tip; sepals 10--15 mm, ovate to lanceolate, spreading; petals 16--25 mm, rose, +- widely elliptic, sparsely ciliate, sparsely hairy, nectary +- basal, widely elliptic, not deep, with 4--5 ciliate membranes, lowest +- = petal width; filaments not dilated, tapered at anther base, anthers white to pink. Fruit: nodding, 20--30 mm, widely elliptic, +- winged. Seed: irregular, dark brown. Chromosomes: 2n=20.
Ecology: Grassy slopes in partial shade; Elevation: 500--1500 m. Bioregional Distribution: c&s SN (Madera, Fresno cos.). Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
