Callitriche stagnalis Scop.
Leaf: petiole 3.5--5.5 mm, variable, from broadly parallel-sided to +- round in ×-section; blade 4--9 mm, 1--4 mm wide. Inflorescence: bracts translucent, +- white, sickle-shaped, persistent; staminate bracts 0.2--1.1 mm, pistillate bracts 0.5--1.1 mm. Fruit: subsessile, 1.2--1.7 mm, 1.2--1.8 mm wide, light brown to gray; wing generally uniformly wide from base to tip, transition to fruit wall gradual.
Ecology: Floating rosettes in permanent water, terrestrial on mud or becoming stranded by streams, or ponds; Elevation: < 800 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo, NCoR, n SNF; Distribution Outside California: western and eastern North America; native to Europe. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
