Botrychium pumicola Coville ex Underw.
Leaf: sporophore, trophophore joined near ground level; trophophore stalk 0--3 mm, blade 1-pinnate throughout to 2-pinnate in basal pinnae, 1.5--5(7) cm, 1--3 cm wide in 1-pinnate portion, ovate in 1-pinnate portion, ternate in large plants with basal pinnae expanded, firm, dull white-green, pinnae strongly overlapping to touching, broadly fan-shaped, not midribbed, side margins of proximal pinnae generally converging at 90--180°, outer margins entire to deeply cleft; sporophore 1-pinnate, deltate to triangular, stalk 0.4--0.6 × trophophore, branches ascending, strongly overlapping.
Ecology: Open volcanic soil; Elevation: 2700--2800 m. Bioregional Distribution: CaRH (Diller Canyon, Mount Shasta); Distribution Outside California: to Oregon (Crater Lake to Three Sisters region). Note: California pls, found in 1941, rediscovered in 2009.
