Botrychium paradoxum W.H. Wagner
Leaf: sporophore segments 2, nearly identical, 1 a modified trophophore, joined at or above mid-leaf; segments 1.5--3 cm, stalk 2--10 mm, fertile portion 1-pinnate, linear in outline, lateral branches sessile, short, ascending, generally not overlapping; spores 36--43 µm in longest diam. Chromosomes: 2n=180.
Ecology: Moist meadows, shrubby slopes; Elevation: +- 4000 m. Bioregional Distribution: c SNH; Distribution Outside California: to Washington, southern Alberta, Utah, Colorado. Note: All other species occasionally produce 2 sporophores and no trophophore, but the 2 segments are not identical, not with the morphology described above.
