Astragalus filipes Torr. ex A. Gray
Habit: Perennial herb, sparsely leafy; +- glabrous to densely strigose. Stem: clumped, 3--9 dm. Leaf: 2.5--12 cm; stipule sheaths low, papery; leaflets (5)9--19(23), +- spaced, 3--25 mm, linear or narrowly oblong, tips +- obtuse or notched. Inflorescence: flowers (4)10--30, not crowded, generally reflexed. Flower: petals +- dull white or pale yellow, banner 10--15.5 mm, recurved 50--85°, keel 6.7--12 mm. Fruit: spreading or pendent; body 17--30 mm, 3--6.5 mm wide, generally flat, +- narrowly oblong in profile, tapered at ends, glabrous or minutely strigose, in age papery; often deciduous, dehiscing from base or not; stalk-like base 6--16 mm, hairy; chamber 1. Chromosomes: 2n=24.
Ecology: Dry, open areas in sagebrush or pine (MP) or chaparral (SW); Elevation: 750--2150 m. Bioregional Distribution: WTR, SnBr, SnJt, MP; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, Idaho, Nevada, northern Baja California. Flowering Time: May--Jul
