Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh.
Habit: Branched. Stem: erect, 0.5--3(5) dm; hairs below simple and forked, spreading, above 0. Leaf: basal, 0.8--3.5(4.5) cm, (1)2--10(15) mm wide, oblanceolate, entire or minutely dentate, hairs 2--4-rayed; cauline few, 0.4--1.8(2.5) cm, 1--6(10) mm wide, base tapered. Flower: petals 2--3.5(4) mm, white. Fruit: 1--1.5 cm, 0.5--0.8 mm wide; pedicel spreading, 3--10(15) mm, slender. Seed: 40--70, 0.3--0.5 mm, oblong. Chromosomes: 2n=10.
Ecology: Disturbed ground, sandy areas, flats, fields; Elevation: < 1600 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, ScV, CaR, n SN, SnFrB, SCo, Wrn; Distribution Outside California: to eastern United States where abundant; native to Eurasia. Flowering Time: Feb--May Note: Sp. widely used in experimental biology. Entire genome sequenced in 2000.
