Antirrhinum virga A. Gray
Habit: Perennial herb from woody caudex, glabrous. Stem: erect, self-supporting, 40--220 cm, leafy, wand-like. Leaf: spirally arranged, sessile, 5--12 cm, linear, acute, reduced basally to persistent scales, distal reduced to bracts in inflorescence, 4--11 mm. Inflorescence: raceme, terminal, open, flowers all opening; pedicels 2--6 mm, subtending branchlets 0. Flower: calyx lobes 6--8 mm, < corolla tube, equal; corolla 13--18 mm, pink, lips withering, turning brown. Fruit: 6--9 mm, oblique-ovoid; chambers unequal, +- truncate distally, dehiscent by 2 pores each. Seed: 1--1.3 mm, ovoid, black, +- ridged. Chromosomes: n=16.
Ecology: Openings in chaparral, rocky areas, often on serpentine; Elevation: 200--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: s NCoRH, s NCoRI. Flowering Time: Jun--Jul
