Allium vineale L.
Habit: Bulb 1--2 cm, ovoid, bulblets several, stalked, hard-shelled, exposed as bulb coats disintegrate; outer coat +- brown to +- yellow, striate, splitting into strips, cells vertically elongate in narrow, wavy rows. Stem: 30--100 cm. Leaf: 2--4, << stem, 20--60 cm, 2--4 mm diam, sheathing lower stem. Inflorescence: flowers generally few, sterile, all or in part replaced by bulblets; pedicels 12--15 mm. Flower: 3--4 mm; perianth parts ovate, entire, green-white to purple; inner filaments with 2 obvious, lateral appendages; ovary crest 0.
Ecology: Uncommon. Disturbed places; Elevation: < 100 m. Bioregional Distribution: s NW, n SNF, ScV, n CW, SCo; Distribution Outside California: native to Europe. Flowering Time: Jun--Aug
