Allium praecox Brandegee
Habit: Bulb 10--18 mm, ovoid to +- spheric; outer coat cells transversely elongate, in obscure, wavy herringbone pattern; inner coats white. Stem: 20--60 cm. Leaf: 2--3, 0.7--1.5 × stem, widely channeled or flat, keeled. Inflorescence: flowers generally 5--40; pedicels 15--40 mm. Flower: 8--12 mm; perianth parts +- spreading to +- erect, +- ovate, entire, pale pink, in fruit folded over fruit, papery, +- opaque, dull purple; ovary crests 3, minute, 2-lobed, central. Chromosomes: n=7.
Ecology: Uncommon. Shaded, grassy slopes; Elevation: < 800 m. Bioregional Distribution: SW (exc SnGb, SnBr); Distribution Outside California: northern Baja California. Flowering Time: Mar--May
