Acacia retinodes Schltdl.
Habit: Shrub, small tree < 10 m, unarmed; root suckers common. Stem: twig +- angled, glabrous. Leaf: simple, 3--20 cm, 3--14 mm wide, narrowly lanceolate, +- straight; petiole base 1--3 mm, gland above not obvious, < 1 mm wide; midvein prominent. Inflorescence: raceme of 5--9 heads, < leaf; head 5--7 mm wide. Flower: pale yellow (cream). Fruit: 4--16 cm, 4--7 mm wide, straight, flat, papery, dark brown, glabrous. Seed: aril light yellow, enlarged, 3/4 or more encircling seed.
Ecology: Uncommon. Disturbed areas, mostly coastal; Elevation: < 900 m. Bioregional Distribution: CCo, SCo; Distribution Outside California: native to southeastern Australia. Flowering Time: Feb--Mar
