These people own the land on which the Big Madrona is situated. The tree is at the end of a hayfield on a plateau-like portion of the ridge. The road runs sharply down the ridge to thie hayfield.
The Madrona stands on a little promontory at the near end. Coming down the ridge one is wonderfully impressed. I rubbed my eyes. I thought it must be an oak, a Maul oak maybe, so big and round. When one gets near---and the tree is within [60 feet]
