-- Camped last night on Eel bank in a picturesque spot. -- Yew trees along stream, Taxus brevifolia. -- No Christmas berry seen since leaving Ukiah. No redwoods seen since those this side (4 or 5 mi.) of [Harris] Mill. -- Holodiscus discolor -- Idol House. -- No. 1872. Viburnum. Corolla 4-5 [merous], more 5 [merous] ones than 4 [merous] ones as causally observed. Bushes 5-9 ft. high, very showy. -- Quercus chrysolepis, fine lofty trees (not wide spreading type) but broad enough to be beautiful 75 ft. high, banks of stream in can_on near Cummings. In fl. [Mr.] G. took picture.
