-This morning a queer one-horse
outfit came along--one man in it,
obviously a curio. He was clean but
poorly dressed--and had a double
visor cap on. His conversation ran
like this: I graduated at Harvard in
1862, came to California in 1864; had

Went to Florida, up through the
Carolinas, Virginia, Chicago,
Denver, Los Angeles. Have
been up to Eureka every year
from L.A. for 20 years. Prospecting
oil and gold. Went into a house back
over Cahto. Woman offered loaf of
bread for 10 c; drunken husband
obviously wanted 25. I came out
and climbed back in wagon. He

a fearful blow on the arm with a 10-ft
club. I reached for my pistol and then
saw his wife struggling with him for the

-Orthocarpus faucibarbata Gray
-Trifolium microdon H _ H. _Cf. no. 1836._
-Trifolium variegatum, form of

In Botany 3, I make out a list of the hard woods in Rosaceae with comments.
It ought to prove interesting as a point economic.
