are destroying all the redwood. He glowingly spoke of the forests as the finest forests on earth; the freatest trees in California, there being trees 40 ft. in diameter! Something should be done to preserve some of these redwoods - for in the Humboldt region are the finest ones.
I propose to go next into that northern country. F.M. Anderson regards Etna or Fort Jones as good places to start from; mules can be had at either of

these places, especially at the former place.
Anderson spoke also of the fine "Trinity Cluster" of mountains which he calls the most picturesque mountains in the Coast Ranges, granite peaks rising high out of the surrounding country. This cluster includes Thompson's Peak, Weaver Bally etc incl Trinity Mt. proper, at least of the Mining Bureau map.
