I went to the collete.

At Center School there were 50 pupils. One day the black gnats were so bad the windows and doors were closed against them. The atmosphere was so stifling that Frankie Jepson fainted. Melzi Rogers went and got the Rogers family carriage and took Frankie home -- to the ranch where is now Elmira. Frankie did not come to school next day; but Mary Jepson came. Dan asked the name of the new girl and [Leland] Williams said: Mary Jepson.

The teacher O.J. Willis married Virginia ("Ginie" = "Jennie") Rodgers. Her father = Tom Rodgers, brother of George, and James ("Jim".) Rodgers. Children of Tom Rodgers = Melzi, Walter, George the

hunchback, Cecilia and Virginia.

"Jim" Rogers, sonse = Commodore ("Commy") and Selden ("Seldie"). Sons of "Old Man Williams" = Jefferson ("Jeff"), Washington ("Wash"), Frank, Marshall ("Marsh"), Thomas ("Tom"). When Frank Williams first wife died "Celia" Rodgers took care of the children.

"The bridge at [Force] ranch built about 1867. I remember well when it was building. It was covered with milled lumber, tongue and groove redwood, and painted with a black asphalt paint.

"I was born in 1860.
