How long the trace of them lasts: inn signs in the west country of England: White Hart Inn; Dun Cow Hotel; Red Horse Inn. -- color relics of the Wars of the Roses, the white rose of York, the red rose of Plantagenet. cf. The people have forgotten these wars - but they have not forgotten the Civil War in England, the bloody struggle between the Puritans and the Stuart Kings. -- In the "old days" some girl would call out to one: "Got a trade last for you!"
