67_0 Went to see Dan Force, neighbor boy and school mate of long ago, down in Oakland. Dan said: "The school of Oilers was held in the church. That was my first school. My first teacher was Aitken S. Vail (he married Hattie Williams sister of Frank Williams). Next: C. Chayney (afterwards a physician); Miss Taylor (the seats of the pews were high, my feet could not reach the floor; so getting tired I dropped down to floor and crawled under pews to back of school. The teacher passing by saw me and took me and put me under a table up front. I got tired of that punishment and as the teacher passed by I grabbed her skirt and held on fast. She looked down, |
