Geology

_The Geology of the Potrero Hills and Vacaville region, Solano Co., California_ by Thos. L. Bailey (Univ. Cal. Publ. Geol. Vol. 19: no. 15).

The College Bell
The California Baptist College had a library of classical books _ the Greek, Latin and English classics mainly. Its books were characteristic of those found in the old-time classical college. Hotels in that early day might have a library - the What Cheer House in San Francisco had one in gold days. When the What Cheer House closed, its library went to the California Baptist College, the library stamps on the books plainly indicate.

The Brush-Covered Vaca Mts.
This range undoubtedly carried at one time more forest trees than at present. There are vestiges of the ancient forest which doubtless was similar in some respects to the forest _ the open woodland of the Napa Range. The vestiges demonstrate that: Arbutus Menziesii near the [blank] School, summit of the Vaca Mts., opposite head of Weldon Canyon; Torreya californica, vestiges in Gates Canyon; Quercus chrysolepis, some what common on west slope of the ridge near summit; Arctostaphylos manzanita, above head of Weldon Canyon. Cf. F.B. 10:8. Also 53:193.

Cont. [continued] from p. 86.
Pleasant to live in the village, to be a boy in the village and always have some boy to play with. This thought went through my mind. But, home again, there was my riding horse, and scarcely a boy in the village had a riding horse, and all the animals on the ranch that interested me so much, bulls, cows, calves, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, sheep, pigs and all the horses known by name _ with all this (cont. p. 83)
