And here were forests ancient as the hills,

-Edwin Markham has a poem on the Suisun Hills and the _sycamores_ in its canyons. I am confident there are no sycamore in western Solano County south of Putah Creek. Are there any along Putah Creek? Along the Sacramento River east, yes. Putah Creek, I cannot recall.
-In the very earliest day as we drove about the countryside there is fixed in my memory fence lines on the Arculus Hawkins place, the posts of oak which must have been split from the trunks of the Valley Oak.
